Informational Community Meetings Scheduled Regarding Honolulu Rail Transit Project

INFORMATIONAL COMMUNITY MEETINGS SCHEDULED
REGARDING HONOLULU RAIL TRANSIT PROJECT

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) invites the public to a series of informational community meetings starting next week regarding the Honolulu Rail Transit Project.

HART will hold the first of five community meetings on Tuesday evening, May 1, 2012 at McKinley High School in Honolulu. The public will receive updated information about the rail project, and have the opportunity to ask questions.

“With construction underway along the rail route inWest Oahu, we look forward to meeting with residents to talk about the latest rail news and other aspects of the project,” said HART executive director and CEO Daniel Grabauskas.

Topics of discussion will include rail construction, project costs and finances, rail system operations, and transit-oriented development.

All five community meetings will run from 6 to 8 p.m.:

  • Urban Honolulu – Tuesday, May 1, McKinley High School Cafeteria, 1039 South King Street.
  • Salt Lake -Wednesday, May 2, Radford High School Cafeteria, 4361 Salt Lake Boulevard.
  • Kalihi – Thursday, May 3, Farrington High School Cafeteria, 1564 North King Street.
  • Waipahu – Tuesday,May 8,Waipahu Intermediate School Cafeteria, 94-455 Farrington Highway.
  • Mililani -Wednesday, May 9, Mililani High School Cafeteria, 95-1200Meheula Parkway.

The $5.17 billion rail transit project is a 20-mile elevated rail system connecting East Kapolei with Ala Moana Center. It includes 21 stations in communities includingWaipahu, Pearl City, Aiea, Kalihi, Chinatown, Downtown Honolulu and Kaka`ako. There will also be rail stations at or near activity centers such as UH-West Oahu, Leeward Community College, Pearlridge, Aloha Stadium, and Honolulu Airport.
